The Civil Rights Movement, Chicano Movement, Female Liberation Movement, Gay Liberation Movement, Vietnam War Protests and other movements of the 1960's all express social critiques using unique visual languages. These languages tell us about the way that design can progress and characterize a movement. Whether it be through magazines, protest art, signage, or group branding, design was an integral part of these movements achieving their goals. How, though, was it that this design was so powerful? What can we learn from the visual language of these movements to help inspire and design our protests of today?

My projects responsibilities include analyzing primary and secondary sources, including images.
As well as logging and organizing research findings. I will draw conclusions on the stylistic approaches of the protests of 1960’s USA in order to better aid movements for change today. Then, I will report those conclusions in an understandable and accessible way.
